Who we are
Portal Garzón is the guide to the area running from José Ignacio to Laguna Garzón, in the departments of Maldonado and Rocha, Uruguay. It brings together the shops, services, places to stay, activities and restaurants of the area, along with practical guides and the news that matters to people who live here or are coming to visit.
The site is an independent project. It is not part of any media group or chain. It is funded by the business listings of the area and, in the future, by clearly identified advertising. The site was built by ITAMOA, which has no part in editorial decisions.
The editorial team
Guides, news and family activities are signed by the Portal Garzón editorial team. The team covers the area, keeps the directory of listings up to date, checks what it publishes against official sources, and corrects whatever is pointed out to it.
What we do and what we don't: we cover the geography, services and institutional news of this specific area. We do not publish customer reviews, we do not hold restaurant menus or prices, and we do not handle third-party bookings. When something depends on a business, we link to its listing, where its contact details are.
How we make our content
Every piece we publish has to add something you would not find elsewhere: a figure from our own directory, a specific distance or access route, the real seasonality of the area, or a local regulation explained with its source.
What we verify. Every claim involving a date, a number or a regulation is checked against an official source — the Maldonado and Rocha local governments, the Ministry of Environment, the Ministry of Tourism, the Coast Guard, the transport ministry, or an event's own organisers — or against a listing already published here. That source is named and linked at the foot of the piece. If something cannot be confirmed, we say so and point you to where to check it, or we leave it out.
What we don't do. We do not invent opening hours, prices, phone numbers or quotes. We do not present as news anything that is not a new, dated fact. We do not change a page's date to make it look recent: the date you see is the publication date, and we only say "updated" when the text actually changed.
Corrections
If you spot an error — outdated information, hours that changed, something wrongly attributed — write to hola@portalgarzon.com. We check it and fix it. When a correction changes the meaning of what was published, we note it on the page with the update date.
If you own a business and its listing has wrong details, or you want to claim it or have it removed, write to the same address. Removals are done within 48 hours.
Advertising and sponsorship
Business listings are published on editorial criteria: appearing in the directory is not paid for.
If at some point a business pays for a featured position or for a piece, that placement will be labelled "Sponsored" wherever it appears, with its links marked accordingly. We will never mix paid content into a guide or a news story without saying so. As of today there is no paid placement on the site.
