The lighthouse has been the heart of José Ignacio since 1877: it stands on the rocky tip of the peninsula and divides the town's two souls, Playa Mansa and Playa Brava. When it's open to the public, climbing its 150 steps — with a rope to help you and gusts of wind at the top — rewards you with the most beautiful panoramic view on this whole coast: the village, the lagoons and the open Atlantic.
The perfect moment is sunset, when the sun drops on the Mansa side and the whole village turns golden. Admission costs little and the experience is short, so it works well with kids or as a break between beach sessions. Opening hours vary with the season and the Navy's operations, so it's worth checking before you go.
