Mutate opened in 2003, the work of Santiago Barriola and Gonzalo Massa, and is one of the shops with the most personality in José Ignacio. On Las Garzas street, facing the square, it mixes men's and women's clothing with 1950s modernist furniture, Nordic design, vintage glass and flea-market finds, put together with a curatorial eye that has made it a reference.
The house rule is that nothing comes from mass production: everything you see is a unique piece or an exclusive selection, so whatever you take home, nobody else will have it. It opens in season, when the town is at its best, and appears constantly in international guides to the area. For design lovers, it's a mandatory stop at the lighthouse.
