Fundación Cervieri Monsuárez opened in January 2024 with the mission of strengthening Uruguay's visual arts scene and connecting the country to the international art circuit. Its home in José Ignacio, designed by Rafael Viñoly's studio, is a piece in itself: three floors and 900 square meters with a seven-meter granite wall carved using ancestral Inca techniques, worked on by experts linked to the reconstruction of Machu Picchu.

The programming aims high: it opened with Vivian Suter's Pintar como ser and launched its 2026 season on January 5 with The Office of Inter-American Affairs Presents: Uruguay by Ana Segovia, accompanied by performances with the INAE. If you're in the village, pay it a visit even if museums aren't your thing: the building alone justifies the detour, and the exhibitions usually coincide with the summer high season.
