Polo arrived in this corner of the east in 1984 with the Busquet family, pioneers of the sport in Punta del Este, on the old Medellín estancia bordering Laguna José Ignacio. On Ruta 10, the club's fields look out over the lagoon and the sea, a hard-to-match setting for watching international-level play. Much of the area's fame as the capital of summer polo comes down to this club.

The main event is the Abierto Uruguayo de Polo: its 73rd edition was played here from January 2 to 10, 2026, as the headline event of the summer season. If you want more than just watching, the club has a polo school open to students. Going to a match in January, with the lagoon in the background and the crowd just meters from the field, is one of the classic summer plans in José Ignacio.
