International airport in Rocha
Connectivity and tourism for the region.
Parliament has approved a project to build an airport in Rocha. Locations near La Paloma or between Laguna de Rocha and Laguna Garzón are under consideration, which would improve access to the whole east coast and destinations such as José Ignacio and Laguna Garzón.
The airport would be set up for private flights, charters and light aircraft in a first phase, with customs and services. The aim is to boost tourism year-round and offer more options for visitors to the region.
