The Maldonado local government staffs José Ignacio's Brava and Mansa beaches with lifeguards throughout the season, from mid-November to Tourism Week (Holy Week).

In November the service runs from 11 am to 6 pm; from December, from 9:30 am to 7:30 pm. Respect the flags and, if you are with children, see the guide to safe beaches with kids.
