What this section is for
These are 82 services across José Ignacio, La Juanita, Laguna Garzón and Pueblo Garzón: health care, transport, fuel, hardware stores, architects and builders, house and pool maintenance, real estate, event planners, schools and public bodies. It is the least touristic part of the portal and the most useful when something needs solving. The area has few providers per trade and many work on request, so knowing who to call saves half a day of driving around.
Health care and emergencies
José Ignacio has the health centre, the clinic and a pharmacy; Pueblo Garzón has its own clinic. The mobile emergency service listed for the area is SEMM Mautone. On the coast, in season, there are the José Ignacio lifeguards, and on the water the Naval Prefecture, Uruguay's coastguard. Emergency numbers are gathered on our emergencies page, which is worth reading before you need it.
Getting around and fuel
Without your own car, the area runs on taxis and private hire in José Ignacio, car rental and door-to-door transfer companies such as LPTUR, Punta Traslados and Survans. Public transport is limited to intercity coaches that stop on the main road: CODESA Line 14, COT and COPSA Línea Este. For fuel, the ANCAP station in José Ignacio is the last one before you cross into Rocha. Our transfers guide compares the options.
Houses: building, upkeep and gardens
A large share of the listing serves houses, because many properties here are used seasonally and need someone to look after them the rest of the year. There are architecture practices — Martín Gómez, JLA, Puppo, Rudolph — builders such as Santana and CEM, the Tito's plumbing supplier, pool maintenance with Piscinas Cristalinas and Piscinas del Este, landscaping and gardening, and property management companies. There are two hardware stores: Karper in José Ignacio and Ferrifaro in La Juanita. If the plan is to buy or build, our guide to investing in the area sets out the steps.
Paperwork, schools and village life
The section also covers the institutional side: the Pueblo Garzón municipal office, the police stations in José Ignacio and Pueblo Garzón, the La Juanita fire station, the Redpagos agency for bill payments and cash withdrawals, the area's rural and state schools, the chapels and the library and cultural centre in Garzón. For a guided tour by category, see our guide to practical services around Laguna Garzón.
