Family bike ride along quiet roads near Laguna Garzón

Family activity · July 17, 2026

Cycling the roads that connect Laguna Garzón with La Juanita and the village of Garzón is a relaxed way to spend an afternoon with the family, with no booking and no fixed schedule. Most of the way runs on quiet dirt roads, easy enough to ride at a child's pace, and bikes can be rented near El Caracol for anyone who doesn't bring their own. A couple of hours is enough for a short outing with views of the lagoon and, depending on the route, the circular bridge.

What to do

The most common route links La Juanita, the circular bridge and the village of Garzón, mixing quiet dirt roads with a short stretch on Route 10. You can also do a shorter loop that stays closer to the lagoon shore without straying far from the starting point. This is a ride built around the scenery rather than the distance: the open lagoon, the fields on either side and, where the route passes close by, a different view of the circular bridge.

For bike rentals in the area, the portal has a page on kayak and bike rental at El Caracol and Laguna Garzón, with options for the whole family. It's worth checking ahead for kids' bikes or child seats, depending on the ages in your group.

Where

The most practical starting point is the El Caracol area, on Laguna Garzón, where the internal roads branch off toward La Juanita and toward the village of Garzón. These dirt roads carry far less traffic than Route 10, which makes them the most comfortable option with kids.

If your route crosses a stretch of Route 10, do it carefully: it's a road with car and truck traffic, especially near the approaches to the Laguna Garzón circular bridge. Away from those crossings, the internal roads around the lagoon are quiet and fairly flat.

When

Autumn and winter are good months for cycling here: there's less traffic on Route 10 than in high season, and midday temperatures tend to be pleasant for riding. Since days are shorter, it's best to head out early and plan the return with plenty of daylight left.

In summer, avoid the hottest hours: early morning or toward sunset works best, and traffic on the road is lighter then too. If you're visiting in the low season, the winter guide to José Ignacio and Laguna Garzón has more ideas for the rest of your day.

Tips for going with kids

Helmets for everyone, no exceptions, and clothes that won't catch in the chain. Bring water and a snack, especially if your route includes the stretch to Garzón. For younger children, the short loop around the lagoon is a better choice than the full ride to the village.

If anyone in the group isn't yet steady on a bike, ask about training wheels or child seats when you rent. You can turn back at any point and retrace the same road; you don't need to finish the full loop for the outing to be worthwhile. After cycling, the portal has more ideas for family activities on the lagoon.
