ReCorre Maldonado, the series of races run by the Intendencia de Maldonado (the departmental government) and organised by SUCA Sports according to the series website, holds its seventh stage of 2026 in Pueblo Garzón on Saturday, October 17, starting at 4 pm local time. The start is on Paraje de los Cerrillos street, outside the yard of the Municipio de Garzón offices, and the course continues along the Camino a Sierras de Garzón to the turnaround points. There is a 5K fun run for teenagers, runners and walkers, and a competitive 10K. The Intendencia announced it on October 1, 2026; entries are open on the series' official website.

What ReCorre Maldonado is

Uruguay is divided into departments, and Pueblo Garzón belongs to Maldonado, the same department as Punta del Este. ReCorre Maldonado is the department's own running series: nine stages in 2026, each in a different town, with an annual ranking and one entry fee that covers the whole season. The Intendencia says the aim is to bring the races to the different towns of the department. The 2026 calendar started in Punta del Este in March and passed through La Barra, Aiguá, Las Flores, Pan de Azúcar and San Carlos before reaching Garzón; the last two stages are Piriápolis on November 7 at 5 pm and Maldonado city on November 28 at 6 pm. Garzón is the only stage in the area this portal covers.

The course, street by street

According to the Intendencia, runners start on Paraje de los Cerrillos, by the post at the entrance to the yard of the Municipio Garzón offices, turn left along Paraje Izcua and Costa José Ignacio, then right along Paraje de la Cantera and Paso del Sauce, and left again along La Capilla street, the Camino a Sierras de Garzón, following that road to the marked turnaround points. The organiser describes the stage as a course over the gravel streets around the village, with start and finish by the square. To get your bearings, according to their listings on the portal the chapel faces Plaza Artigas and the restored old railway station is a few blocks from the square. The series rules provide for vehicle traffic to be cut on the course during the race, with a time limit of 1 h 40 min from the start signal.

Distances, categories and how to enter

The series rules set two distances. The 5K is non-competitive, for youth categories (women and men aged 15 to 17), runners and walkers over 18. The 10K is the competitive race, with age groups for women and men (18–29, 30–39, 40–49, 50–59, 60–69 and 70+) and a single special category for people with disabilities, ranked only over 10K. Ages count as of December 31 of the current year. Children's races are held "as far as the venue and the weather allow", are non-competitive and open to anyone who signs up.

You enter through the form on the official website, uploading a valid medical clearance (Uruguay's carné de salud, a medical form or a doctor's certificate) and signing the liability agreement once for the whole 2026 season. You do not pay online: the fee is paid when you collect your race kit, and it is paid once for the entire series, whether you run all nine stages or just this one. It is UYU 1,300 (Uruguayan pesos) with the race shirt, while stocks last, or UYU 1,000 without; in return you get the annual bib with a timing chip. As of this article, the organiser had not published where or when kits can be collected for the Garzón stage (the rules say it is announced in each stage's details); at earlier stages it was at the start area in the hours before the race. Check the series website before you travel. What the rules do fix: kits are collected up to 30 minutes before the start, no exceptions, with the liability agreement printed, filled in and signed, and the original of your medical clearance is asked for at check-in. Once the start is given, the start arch stays open for 10 minutes; after that nobody is let through. The organiser lists first-aid medical cover during the race, hydration on the course and at the finish, and prizes for the first three of each stage over both distances.

Getting to Pueblo Garzón if you are coming from abroad

Pueblo Garzón is an inland village less than an hour's drive from the coast and has no public transport, according to the village page on this portal, so you need a car or a pre-booked transfer. From Route 9, the entrance is marked by the roundabout at kilometre 175, opened in 2024 together with the dual carriageway. Rental cars and transfer operators are listed in the guide to taxis, transfers and car rental. Remember that mid-October is spring here, not autumn.

What it means if you are planning a visit

If you had Pueblo Garzón in your plans for that Saturday, count on the 4 pm start, the traffic cut on the course and the square as the finish area. For a meal afterwards, the portal has 4 food listings in Pueblo Garzón, including La Pulpería, open year-round according to the portal's village page, and Restaurante Garzón, and 43 listings in the village in all (the breakdown is in the sources). For an emergency in the village, Policlínica Garzón has a listing, and the emergencies page gathers the official numbers. The organiser states that the only official information on the series is what appears on its website, so check it the day before. Under the rules, the race is not called off for rain unless the organisation judges that the weather puts participants at risk; in that case, or for a thunderstorm or other force majeure, it can be suspended on the day.
